Monkey Stew

An African legend, retold by Angel Taane-Edwards, aged 8 years.

Mrs. Crocodile was so hungry that she wanted to have some monkey stew.So she told Mr. Crocodile to go and get some monkeys for her dinner.
She said, “Mr. Crocodile, please can you get me some monkey stew.”
“I will.”
So off he goes, then he sees one monkey and says, “Oh, oh monkey, come here.”
“Yes, Mr. Crocodile?”
“I am so hungry that I just want to eat you up.”
“Eat me up? Well, where shall I wait?”
“Um, how about up in the tree?” said Mr. Crocodile.
So the monkey sat down and waited.
Then Mr. Crocodile saw two monkeys and said, “Monkeys, come here.”
“Yes?”
“I’m feeling so hungry that I want to eat you.”
“What! You’re gonna eat us?”
“Yes.”
So they went up the tree and waited, then Mr. Crocodile said, “come down so I can eat you now.”
“No. We will not. We tricked you.”
So the poor old crocodiles had to starve.
